What a week this has been for Paulo Costa. First of all, he got to watch Israel Adesanya get taken apart by MMA fans for his insipid performance against Yoel Romero. Adesanya won, but it wasn’t the most entertaining fight we’ve ever seen. Costa will definitely fancy his chances against the UFC middleweight champion.

That is if he can ever make 185lbs again. Costa rocked up to the T-Mobile Arena looking like he’d eaten Henry Cejudo. We’re not hating, just wondering how he’s going to shift all of that extra timber he’s carrying. However, it does seem like he’s back in the gym and doing the world a fantastic service.

Footage has emerged of Costa knocking out Logan Paul in a sparring match. Yes, that Logan Paul, the Youtube virus that we’ve all had shoved in our faces like a bad dose of the coronavirus. Check out Costa putting him down in a vicious style. You’re welcome.

Savage

Costa is the type of wildman who will bring the fight to Yoel Romero. So it should come as no surprise that he doesn’t hold back in training. In short, he possesses frightening power. A connection from his powerful right hand will send you to sleep. However, for some reason, Paul decided that sparring this wildman was a good idea.

Paul is technically 0-1 in professional boxing after losing a controversial decision to his Youtuber rival Logan Paul. We say controversial, but does anybody really care that much? Anyway, he’s apparently considering an MMA fight because he’s genuinely been training. He also has a strong background in wrestling that should stand in his stead.

Knockout

Well, that is fine until you stand in front of a proper powerhouse of a fighter like Costa. Paul didn’t last long until he was counting stars. You might think that what happens in training stays there, but it was actually him who released the footage. Costa will be delighted because it’s good exposure for him.

Was the knockout genuine? You decide. Paul said:

“This morning we came here to the UFC Performance Institute. Apparently, they want me to spar a guy by the name of Paulo Costa. He’s not a human, he’s a bear — he’s a 13-and-0 undefeated UFC fighter. I don’t think he liked the way I looked at him at dinner last night or something — but it’s a good thing I’m a professional boxer now who’s 0 and 1, goddammit. They put the headgear on me, not him. That’s how you now I’m f****d.”

Rivalry

In the meantime, Costa has his rivalry with Adesanya to deal with. He fully believes that he will leave the Nigerian-born fighter unconscious. But the champion sees it differently and has already promised a knockout. We’ll believe that when we see it. One thing that does seem more likely is that Costa will be bring the fight to Adesanya. At least we hope so.

Adesanya will need a big performance against the Brazilian to keep the fans onside. MMA fans are a fickle bunch and he already got a few boos. Every champion has some of those fights though. Look at Tyron Woodley’s entire reign except for the Darren Till win. Then you have the famous example of Anderson Silva v Demian Maia. We forgive him.
