5. Lyoto Machida

When Lyoto Machida realized he had consumed a banned substance, he thought the best thing he could do is notify of USADA. After all, they can’t fault him for his honesty, right? Actually, that is exactly what they did.

Much like Cro Cop, Machida was suspended by USADA after he admitted taking a banned substance. Machida was supposed to face Dan Henderson at UFC on Fox 19 in 2016 but he admitted to taking a supplement named DHEA. Most countries allow the selling of DHEA over the counter. Machida would say he wasn’t aware the substance was banned and contacted USADA as soon as he realized what he had done. His honesty meant nothing and an 18-month suspension was handed over to him.

Machida called the punishment “very unreasonable”. Now 39 years old, Machida can accurately claim his USADA suspension took away the last few fights of his athletic prime.
