Major shakeups happened in the UFC rankings last weekend. The organisation dropped some of its stars from the rankings after running into some trouble with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for failed drug tests.

Both former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar were noticeably missing from the official UFC rankings on the promotion’s website.

Also missing from the list was former middleweight standout Lyoto Machida.

Bad Times

Jones won the interim UFC light heavyweight title with a victory over Ovince St. Preux at UFC 197 in a rough performance coming out of his recent suspension. He did not appear his usual dominant self, lending to the notion that he was rusty and that time spent away from the cage affected him.

Being dropped from the rankings could also mean Jones may have been stripped of the interim title. This is however unconfirmed since there is no official word from the UFC regarding the matter.

Jones was scheduled to fight UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in the main event at UFC 200 last July. Days prior to the event however, Jones tested positive for traces of Clomiphene — a USADA banned substance. The findings forced Jones to withdraw from the bout.

Anderson Silva, who was in town for other matters, stepped in to face Cormier on short notice with Cormier ending up victorious.

Getting busted for banned substances may not mean much for Brock Lesnar, who could have fought his last fight in the UFC anyway.

Back to WWE

Lesnar on the other hand was allowed to compete at UFC 200, winning a unanimous decision over Mark Hunt.

The WWE star returned to The Octagon after five years away from the sport. It was revealed days after the fight that he too failed USADA drug tests. He previously held the eighth spot in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings.

Both fighters tested positive for estrogen receptor modulators, which is a common masking agent to hide the effects of steroid use. Jones has since claimed that the failed tests were a result of tainted supplements. Lesnar did not offer any comment.
