CJ Hancock

There’s no bigger wake-up that it’s time to call time on your career than actually being pronounced clinically dead while still in the cage, as was the case for CJ Hancock in 2017.

Hancock, who made his professional debut in the Bellator promotion before moving on to LFA, was looking to pull himself out of a two-fight losing streak when he went up against Charlie Ontiveros that November.

Hancock attempted a brutal weight from 215lbs to 170lbs during fight week and paid a massive price for it when he collapsed to the canvas in the second round of the fight suffering from kidney failure.

Hancock’s heart then stopped beating twice in the cage as doctor’s desperately tried to revive him using a defibrillator.

The cage-side physician’s did perform a miracle that night to bring him back to life, but even so, Hancock was advised to never fight again by doctor’s, and he took heed of that warning.
