Miesha Tate

For a number of years, Miesha Tate was arguably the second biggest female star in MMA other than her biggest rival Ronda Rousey.

When Rousey finally faltered, Tate finally achieved her dream of becoming a UFC champion by defeating Holly Holm with a thrilling fifth round submission to win the bantamweight title.

At that stage the world seemed at Tate’s feet and she was more in-demand than ever both inside the Octagon and out of it.

However, Tate then found herself facing Amanda Nunes in her first title defense, and like many other top WMMA fighters, she found herself being quickly defeated by the future two-weight champion.

Attempting to shake off that disappointment, Tate took on Raquel Pennington, but after a decision loss ‘Cupcake’ shocked fans by announcing that she was retiring with immediate effect.

Such was her popularity that another victory or two would have pushed her straight back into title contention, but Tate has stuck to her guns and has since relocated to Sinagpore to serve as ONE FC’s Vice President.
