Chris Lytle
At the age of 37, Chris ‘Lights Out’ Lytle announced his retirement from the sport, despite having just claiming a ‘Fight Of The Night’ and ‘Submission Of The Night’ bonus for a third round guillotine choke submission victory against Dan Hardy.
In fact, Lytle had won five of his last six fights, and despite a long run of over 50 fights in the sport he was still in surprisingly good shape.
However, at the time Lytle, who also worked as a firefighter, cited wanting to spend time with his family as the main reason for his decision.
It was hard to argue with that, but some seven years later he did return to action.
Sadly, not in MMA though – opting instead to take up bare knuckle boxing, compiling a 3-0 run at the age of 44 that suggested he would still have had plenty to offer in the Octagon too if he hadn’t hung up his gloves.
