President Trump appears to genuinely be an MMA fan, and even in the present day with so many Twitter posts to write, he still finds time to watch the UFC, and has been known to call up Dana White to speak about the fights.
Such was the case last December following UFC 231, which Trump watched with his wife.
“So, he calls me on Tuesday,” White told the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast. “for 15 minutes he couldn’t stop talking about the fight [between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega]. ‘Greatest fight I’ve ever seen in my life.’ He watched the fight with Melania. ‘Greatest fight I’ve ever seen.’ He’s talking about how tough Holloway and Ortega both are and he’s going off about the fights. And Thiago Santos, he couldn’t believe. ‘That fight was incredible,’ and all this stuff.”
Trump also bought the UFC 226: Miocic Vs Cormier pay-per-view on DirecTV earlier in the year, but on that occasion was only able to see part of the main card due to other presidential duties.
When he went back to watch the replay a few days later he found that he wasn’t able to and phoned White to express his dissatisfaction.
“He said, ‘If I paid for the fight, shouldn’t I get to watch the rest of the fight whenever I’m ready to watch it again?'” White recalled in an interview with TMZ, and admitted it was something that he needed to speak to DirecTV about.
