Dominick Cruz was a sensation with the WEC, winning 7 fights and losing just 1. That single defeat came against Team Alpha Male’s Urijah Faber so it made total sense to put the two of them against each other again when the WEC merged with the bigger UFC. This gave the UFC a chance to build his brand to the next level.
Cruz would win the rematch in a unanimous decision and go on to bigger and better things. While he’s spent much of the last four years injured, he’s become one of the most popular commentators in the game. So it’s definitely been a good career move for the former bantamweight champion.
