9. Nate Quarry

Retired MMA veteran Quarry wasn’t even supposed to be an athlete. He grew up in a strict Jehovah’s Witness household that banned him from playing organized sports. He didn’t even start training in MMA until the age of 24, making his professional debut at 29.

That didn’t stop him from making up for the lost time. Quarry won five of his first six fights, earning a spot on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season one. In 2005, he won his UFC debut and went on a winning streak until he ran into Rich Franklin. He’d take a break from fighting but would return to fight six more times. Quarry retired in 2012.
