Santiago Ponzinibbio
Santiago Ponzinibbio hasn’t been lucky enough to be fasttracked to stardom in the UFC, but it feels that heading into 2019 he’s finally starting to get the respect he deserves.
The 32-year-old Argentinian is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak in the welterweight division that includes a TKO victory over Court McGee, a knockout of Gunnar Nelson and wins on the scorecards against Nordine Taleb and Mike Perry.
However, it was his first headlining fight in his own home country against Neil Magny late last year that marked his most impressive showing to date, leaving his experienced opponent barely able to stand with powerful leg kicks before finally KO’ing him with punches in the fourth round.
Ponzinibbio is already a hero in Argentina, having met the president of the country and also been awarded the keys to the city of La Plata – the capital of Beunos Aires, and if he can continue his current form then the 7th ranked contender at 170lbs will only continue to spread in popularity around the globe in 2019.
