Whether you like it or not, and whether you think he deserves it or not, Conor McGregor is fighting Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York for the UFC lightweight title. He’s coming off a five-round unanimous decision victory over bitter rival Nate Diaz at UFC 202, in perhaps the UFC’s most watched event of all-time.

Many fans feel like McGregor, who holds the UFC featherweight belt, should have instead went on to defend that belt against the interim champion Jose Aldo in a much-clamored for rematch. Instead, McGregor, who has made it known his desire to become a two-weight champion, called for Alvarez and that’s what he got.

What Conor McGregor Wants, Conor McGregor Gets

This however has left Aldo feeling very bitter and just recently, he had threatened to retire from MMA together because he could no longer “trust” the UFC. Nonetheless, McGregor wanted Alvarez and that’s what fans will get at UFC 205.

“He’s an intelligent guy. The thing that I love and respect about Conor McGregor is that he loves to fight and he wants to fight everybody. So he’s my kind of guy,” said UFC President Dana White.

Yet despite McGregor’s willingness to step up to the plate to take on any and all challengers, he isn’t exactly the easiest guy to deal with. McGregor has long boasted that he is the one who calls the shots, and that the UFC bends to his whims as a businessman. It is somewhat true, with what we’ve seen from White who seems to easily give in to McGregor’s demands.

“He’s got some stuff going on right now, some personal stuff that I’m sure he’ll announce when he’s ready,” White said…

Conor McGregor Has a Personal Announcement to Make

Recently however, both White and McGregor have come to terms and that’s why we have the McGregor-Alvarez fight in front of us now. White has also allowed McGregor to keep his 145-pound title, despite not having defended it in almost a year.

Furthermore, White stated that McGregor is going through a few personal issues at the moment which he did not announce. Instead, White says he will let McGregor be the one to make his own announcement.

“He’s got some stuff going on right now, some personal stuff that I’m sure he’ll announce when he’s ready,” White said.

As to what that announcement will be, fans can only speculate. Rumors range from McGregor getting married, to getting his girlfriend pregnant, or to even taking a little time off from fighting. McGregor burst onto the scene in recent years, and came from being relatively unknown to perhaps the biggest star in MMA history.

Ariel Helwani Debunks Rumors on McGregor Announcement

He’s also one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster, so a break from competition is well-deserved.

Nevertheless, it has now been reported that McGregor didn’t like the way White made a big deal out of his announcement.

MMAFighting journalist Ariel Helwani is a man certainly in the know, and he dropped hints as to what McGregor’s announcement is all about. Or at least, he debunked a few rumors without actually spilling the beans on the announcement.

Helwani stated that McGregor’s “out of left field” announcement is NOT related to MMA, it is NOT about him retiring, and NOT about giving up his featherweight belt.

Whatever it is, McGregor isn’t happy that it’s been blown out of proportion. What do you guys think McGregor’s announcement is?
