BREAKING: Team Khabib in Talks With Georges St. Pierre for Super Fight

Sorry, Conor McGregor… Khabib Nurmagamedov Wants Georges St. Pierre Next After Sensational UFC Mini Tournament Was Cancelled…

Khabib Nurmagamedov has made no secret of the fact that he wants to fight again this year. The big question is though: who will his next opponent be? If you’ve put your money on Conor McGregor, you might want to cancel that bet, because it’s looking less likely by the day.

According to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, Nurmagamedov is targeting a showdown with UFC legend Georges St. Pierre, in what would be an absolutely massive fight. That’s the news coming out of Khabib’s camp, with the story coming straight from his manager Ali Abdelaziz.

To make this story all the more sensational, it is believed that the UFC was planning a four-man unofficial mini-tournament involving McGregor, Nurmagamedov, St. Pierre and Nick Diaz. The four men are without a doubt the biggest draws in the UFC.

Legacy

Nurmagamedov became the lightweight champion in the most dramatic circumstances when he beat Al Iaquinta after an insane week where Tony Ferguson and Max Holloway pulled out of fights against him. He’s aware that in order to be considered the best, he has to beat the best. His manager Ali Abdelaziz explained:

“We believe the fight to make is the Georges St. Pierre fight at 155 pounds. Khabib wants to fight for legacy and not for a soap opera drama show, and we think Conor doesn’t deserve this opportunity. The guy hasn’t fought in almost two years. Why does he deserve to fight for the title? He should get his ass back in the line and work his way up.”

It makes sense. There’s no knowing if Conor McGregor will ever fight again – or even if he will be allowed to, after his court date in 12 days time. A fight against St. Pierre would seal ‘The Eagle’s’ legacy as one of the greats in the sport. His Instagram story also suggests that big news is on its way.

Obstacles

However, there remains one massive obstacle: St. Pierre isn’t fit. He made his return in November 2017, after a four-year hiatus. He fought Michael Bisping and won the UFC middleweight title, to become a two-weight champion. He’d love to take the 155lb belt and become the UFC’s first three weight champion, but injuries and health issues might cost him. He explained:

“I need to wait until all the symptoms of my ulcer stop. It’s much better than it was but it’s not 100 percent yet. If I try to return for a training camp for a fight it will amplify and go back to what it was in the beginning. I need to get over this first for my own health and safety.”

‘Rush’ is currently suffering from ulcerative colitis. He’d also need to go through a massive weight cut in order to make it down to lightweight. True, he is a natural welterweight so it’s possible he can force the cut, but he’s not young anymore by any means. Watch this space.

Open

However, don’t rule out Khabib vs Conor just yet. Abdelaziz said that the Russian fighter is still happy to take that fight – he just doesn’t want to wait around for the Irishman to get his house in order. He said:

“There’s only one reason Khabib wants to fight him: to make him pay for what he did. For Khbaib, it’s not only about money. It’s about disciplining him. That being said, UFC should be talking to Georges, not Conor.”

Would you believe that Khabib is still a little bit salty that the ‘Notorious’ threw a dolly through a window at him? No surprise there. Would you like to see him fight Georges St. Pierre next?
