An exciting UFC PPV fight has been booked to end the year of 2021, Charles Oliveira will make his first title defense against Dustin Poirier. It will be a great fight as many are calling Poirier “the best active lightweight” right now, even went as far as to call himself the “uncrowned champ”. Either way, Oliveira has the belt and it will be fireworks.

UFC 269 is scheduled to take place on 11 December and will probably be the last PPV fight card of the year. The lightweight division is considered by many as one of the most exciting divisions to watch mainly because of the talent and names that are competing like McGregor, Gaethje, Chandler, and many more. It is one of those divisions where no one knows who will dominate.

Dustin Poirier made big banks after beating McGregor twice, the PPV was a huge success. Whenever McGregor fights, it is very likely the UFC card will be a success. After Khabib vacated his belt, Poirier was the front-runner to fight for the vacated belt but he still chose money and faced McGregor for the third time.

UFC booked Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler for the vacant belt, Poirier was okay stepping back and let them fight for the belt. The title fight was fireworks, both had great moments. Chandler landed bombs that stunned Oliveira, but Oliveira got his back as well. In the last seconds, Chandler was close to finishing Oliveira.

Going into the second round, momentum was on Chandler’s side and many predicted that it was a matter of time that Oliveira will give up as he has shown in the past. Oliveira proved to the world that he has evolved and came back with a counter hook that led to finishing Chandler in the second round. Brazil has a new UFC lightweight champion.

The upcoming title fight will be interesting since the challenger, Dustin Poirier will be going in as the favorite and it definitely makes sense. Poirier has wins over Gaethje, McGregor, Hooker. As for Oliveira, he has also beaten top guys like Ferguson and Chandler but his resume is not as impressive as Poirier, at least for now. It is still amazing that Oliveira who was being questioned with championship heart ended up being the champion.

As for Poirier, will he be able to get the title of “undisputed” champion? With Khabib retiring, now is the perfect time for Poirier to take the crown and rule the division.
