The Notorious wants to take on The Answer in December… and he’s ready to donate all his winnings to First Responders…

Wow, time flies. Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagamedov a year ago. Since then the Irishman has been focusing on improving his criminal record. So far in 2019, he’s faced five investigations and two convictions. Those numbers could potentially increase.

However, if reports are to be believed, then McGregor could be back before the end of 2019. His teammates say that McGregor wants to fight again. One man has emerged from the pack of potential challengers. No, it’s not Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier. We’re talking about Frankie Edgar.

The pair have gone back and forth on social media. The former lightweight champion is McGregor’s preferred choice for a comeback fight. McGregor has even promised to donate all his fight purse to first responders. Check out the interaction between the two men below.

Back and Forth

The pair went back on forth on Twitter after the UFC sent Edgar birthday wishes. ‘The Answer’ is 38 today and has been with the UFC for almost 13 years. He made his debut against Tyson Griffin at UFC 67 and would go on to become the 155lb champion. However, he moved down to featherweight in 2013 and has fought there ever since.

Edgar lost Max Holloway earlier this year. Then he was expected to drop down another division to bantamweight. However, it looks like that won’t happen if a fight against McGregor can be made. He’ll actually be going up a weight class again. You wouldn’t blame him for taking that fight at his age. He deserves to cash in.

Match-Up

First of all, the UFC’s official Twitter account sent Edgar birthday wishes. Then McGregor decided to get involved and responded to their message. He tweeted: “Happy birthday Frankie. See you in December.” Needless to say, this got a lot of fans excited. Love him or loathe him, McGregor still has a massive hardcore fanbase. Whether or not he deserves them is a different story.

‘The Answer was quick to respond. McGregor has always treated Edgar with more respect than many of his former fellow featherweights. Edgar replied: “Thanks pal, I said yes already it’s on you and @danawhite to make it happen.”

Seriously?

McGregor appears to be serious about this fight. It would make sense in that it’s definitely winnable for him. Furthermore, Edgar’s name value is big enough to add to the promotion value. In short, ‘The Notorious’ doesn’t want to jump straight into a brutal war with the likes of Justin Gaethje. If this fight was five years ago Edgar would have been the favourite. However, now McGregor will have that status. He tweeted:

“There you go White, make the bout. Give my purse to charity. First responders. One for All! @ProperWhiskey.”

Of course, this is just a transparent way to curry favour amongst the masses. He still shamelessly promoted his whiskey at the end of the tweet. But that’s typical of the Irishman. To sum up, a fight could be just what he needs right now. He’s facing two alleged sexual assault investigations. He could yet face jail time for punching an old man.
