Conor McGregor has no time for Jorge Masvidal. After beating Donald Cerrone he refused to name ‘Gamebred’ as his next opponent. Of course, it’s still possible but he’s keeping his options open. The manner in which he destroyed ‘Cowboy’ has suddenly got the world excited again.
However, The Notorious will definitely be careful to pick and choose who he wants next. First of all, he’s probably going to take on Khabib Nurmagamedov in a rematch. But he has his eye on a Nate Diaz trilogy fight as well as several boxing matches.
Masvidal is definitely an option because he blew up in 2020. In sum, it might be great financially for McGregor but he’s wary of the Cuban-American’s size advantage. But this rivalry is definitely heating up.

No Respect
Masvidal won a lot of fan love last year but one man who doesn’t appreciate him is McGregor. ‘Gamebred’ is desperate for a fight with the Irishman but it’s looking like it might be out of reach for now.
“Talk about blowing it,” McGregor said at the UFC 246 post-fight press conference, per MMA Fighting. “If you ask me, that was ridiculous. I don’t know what was going on there. The old ladies in Ireland wear the housecoats watching soap operas.
“So I’m like what’s this guy sitting there? I don’t know, whatever, all the best. I know what it is [wearing the same robe]. Why? I don’t know either. I’m just whatever. I don’t know. Of course, I would fight him, let’s see what happens. I’d like to scoop up — that’s not a great belt is it? But I’ll still take it. Add it to the list. It wasn’t a good night for Jorge if you ask me. All the best to him. God loves a trier.”
Next Up
Realistically McGregor will fight Khabib next if the Russian beats Tony Ferguson. Then win or lose he can fight Masvidal. Only time will tell what happens but if the two of them are involved it’s sure to be box office. Masvidal should concentrate on a title shot.
“If Conor and Masvidal fight, neither one of them even has a title, although Conor does want his “BMF” title, but he doesn’t have a world championship,” White said. “Khabib’s the fight to make. It’s huge for Khabib’s legacy, too. If he beat Conor McGregor, and then he beats Tony Ferguson, and then he beats Conor McGregor again, this is how this kid when he retires, he’s 30-something and 0 and he’s beat all the best.
“I’m telling you right now Khabib versus Conor is the biggest fight in the company and the sport’s history, but I think it might rival Conor and Floyd [Mayweather].”
Rematch
Another man on the Irishman’s radar is Floyd Mayweather. The American boxer put out a fake poster about a rematch with McGregor. Then he released another with Khabib. In short, ‘Money’ is believed to be in talks with the UFC about a potential event this year.
“He forgot ‘McGregor Sports and Entertainment’ on the poster,” McGregor said. “That right there cuts him out, so it’s me and Manny [Pacquiao]. Let’s see what happens. That Floyd, he’s a funny man, that Floyd. We’ll see what happens. The discussions are always on going. They never stop. You know Floyd is going through money fast. He’s far from retired, and that rematch will happen at some stage.”
