UFC President Dana White Gives Fans an Indication of When Conor McGregor Will be Back in the Octagon…

Two words get everyone excited: Conor McGregor. The Irishman has been out of action since August last year when he fought Floyd Mayweather in a record-breaking boxing match in Las Vegas. That was his sole appearance in 2017.

If you want to know when his last UFC fight was, then you have to go back even further. The Irishman last appeared in the octagon in November 2017 when he took his lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 204. He’s set to be stripped of that belt after Khabib Nurmagamedov and Tony Ferguson fight in out in April.

Fear not though. McGregor is set to come back at some point this year. The Irishman has been regularly posting videoes and pictures of him training, on Instagram. He’s also been regularly involved in trash-talking spats with his fellow fighters on Twitter. Now even more exciting is the news Dana White has for fight fans.

Update

The UFC President has regularly assured fans that he expects McGregor to return in the second half of 2018. That still seems to be the case. In an interview with the BBC, White had this to say:

“Hopefully we’ll see him back in either August or September. Well, we’ve got to see how things play out in that division. A lot of things are going to happen in the next several months in the 155-pound division. Coming up is going to be Tony Ferguson versus Khabib and the winner of that is who I would like to see Conor fight next.”

Exciting Times

That is exactly what fans of the Notorious will want to hear. The winner of Nurmagamedov vs Ferguson is the most realistic target for McGregor. He will want to win his title back to increase his marketability. If he beats the new champion, he will be, without a doubt, the best lightweight in the world.

That fight, taking place in Madison Square Garden in New York, is going to be phenomenal. Nurmagamedov Is unbeaten with a ludicrous 25-0 record. Ferguson is also on fire, coming into the title fight on the back of a ten fight win streak.

Other Possibilities

Of course, there are other options for McGregor, who will no doubt want to fight the biggest money maker available. Nate Diaz is a possibility, however, that fight doesn’t make sense right now because Diaz has lost momentum.

Georges St. Pierre is another name constantly being linked. However, while that would be a massive fight, the Canadian last fought at middleweight and is currently recovering from ulcerative colitis. They would have to fight at a catchweight, or welterweight, and McGregor has shown that he is more vulnerable carrying the extra pounds.

Finally, there’s the Floyd Mayweather rematch that is almost definitely never going to happen. Let’s not talk about that anymore. The most important thing is that the biggest game changer that we’ve seen in the modern era of the UFC is coming back soon. Hold onto your red panties, it’s going to be a hell of a ride.
