It looks like Bellator is in talks with Fedor about signing him this year, and they have some interesting ideas on who ‘The Last Emperor’ could fight…
MMA legends are few and far between now days, with most of the old school now long exited from the sport. One legend who remains active after coming back from his retirement is Fedor Emelianenko, although he had a bit of a squash match for his return.
Fighting the unheralded Jaideep Singh during the Rizin Fighting Federation NYE show did little for Emelianenko’s legacy, in fact it might have served the opposite purpose. That said, he got another win, and who did we really expect him to fight after so many years out?
There was talk of a bout with UFC hall of famer Tito Ortiz under the old Pride FC rules, and now it looks as though he’s being linked to a number of other potential matches for 2016, but not for Rizin.
Bellator MMA, who work in conjunction with Rizin, wants Fedor on their roster in 2016, this according to an interview with CEO Scott Coker by Fancy MMA on Youtube. The former Strikeforce owner has already worked with ‘The Last Emperor’ in the past, as he fought four times for the now defunct promotion before his retirement.
The interview with Scott Coker is very revealing, as he explains whom he hopes Fedor can fight against in his next bout, which sounds increasingly like it’s going to be on US soil in 2016.
