While it would later be reduced, USADA originally handed the “Axe Murderer” a lifetime ban for fleeing a drug test. Silva happened to be filming a season of the Ultimate Fighter at the time, coaching opposite Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and detailed the crazy set of events which led to Wanderlei originally being banned completely from the sport.

His lifetime ban was reduced in May of 2015 to 2 years. He is eligible for to return on May 25th 2017. Bellator is currently promoting the long awaited bout between he and Sonnen.
