1. It’s What the Creative Artists Agency Wants
Many of the fighters now associated with the new fighters association, just also happen to be clients of the “Creative Artists Agency”. The talent agency also just happen to be rivals with the one that now owns the UFC, WME-IMG. The MMAAA has nothing to do with MMA, this is a proxy war being fought by two rival talent agencies. Neither agency handles only fighters or athletes as well, so these two companies are fighting over every celebrity on the planet. Their war goes far deeper than the UFC.
Owning the UFC has come with a hefty price tag for WME-IMG, and they now have debt they need to pay back to lenders. If the UFC, ends up in a poor financial position because they now have to share more with the fighters, it places strain on WME-IMG as a whole. In turn, WME-IMG would have less resources to use to woo potential new clients. As a result WME-IMG then become less competition for the Creative Artists Agency. There should be no secret as to who is bankrolling this operation.
While GSP, Tim Kennedy, TJ Dillashaw and others might intend on helping fighters, there is a good chance that most others involved don’t care. Their aim is simply to hurt the UFC. Whether that is better or worse for the sport is not something they are concerned with.
