3. Time Away

Ken Shamrock was one of the most feared fighters when he left MMA for the WWE in 1996. When he returned 3.5 years later the sport had passed him by.

It wasn’t Shamrock’s increased age that worked against him, as he was only 36 at the time (1 year older than GSP), it was the time he spent away from the sport. Shamrock’s record after he took a 3.5 year break from fighting is 6W-12L. Not exactly stellar.

While GSP has been involved with Tristar Gym in Montreal, he has also been spending a lot of time making movies. There is no telling how the reduced focus he has placed on training and fighting will have on him should he ever return to the sport.
