Georges St. Pierre is only 35, but he’s only going to get older.
Very few fighters do well past their mid-30s, and while GSP is someone who could be an exception to that rule, he too will likely see his skills diminish in the next few years.
Let’s say Georges St. Pierre is able to fight at an elite level up until age 38. Let’s also say that he is going to fight a schedule of two fights a year. That gives Georges St. Pierre 6 total fights left while he is still an elite level athlete. To even consider wasting one of those fights on a guy like Benson Henderson or a past-his-prime Chael Sonnen seems like an MMA tragedy.
If we are going to get anymore high level GSP fights they will have to take place in the next couple of years. WME-IMG has the ability to tie Georges up in legal proceedings for at least that amount of time.
