2. the UFC Won’t Let Him Leave

Randy Couture once announced that he was a free agent and the UFC disagreed just like what is happening with GSP now. Couture thought he was free to sign a fight with Fedor Emelianenko. He was wrong, and a court agreed. Couture’s reward was that he got to fight Brock Lesnar in his first fight back with the company.

While Georges St. Pierre has lawyer’d up, he’s not going up against the Fertitta brothers and their casino money anymore, he’s going up against the resources of a major corporation. In short, he doesn’t have a chance. Even if GSP is technically correct and he should legally be a free agent, WME-IMG will tie him and any of his potential promoters up in legal proceedings that will make promoting him a financial liability. In short, he’s toast. He’s fighting for the UFC or nobody.
