5. Women’s Bantamweight Drama Continues

Women’s bantamweight might be the most interesting weight division in the UFC right now.  Historically this division had been the “Ronda Rousey Show”, but that all changed at in Australia when Holly Holm broke her jaw and took her title.  The division was then complicated further when Holm refused to wait for a rematch with Rousey and instead opted to defend her title against Tate at UFC 196, where she was dramatically choked out in the 5th round.

The UFC opted to give Amanda Nunes the next title opportunity instead of a Tate vs Holly rematch, possibly sending Holm and her team a message that the next time the UFC wants her to wait for a fight she should probably wait for that fight.

If Tate wins and Holly defeats Valentina Shevchenko on July 23rd then we will get Tate vs. Holm 2 at UFC’s annual big show at the end of the year.  When/if Rousey returns in 2017 she might get the winner, or she might get a tune-up fight.  If Nunes wins however, she will probably still get Holm, provided Holm gets by Shevchenko, and Tate would probably get Rousey in early 2017.

Really anything could happen in a division that was blown wide-open in the last year.
