3. Jon Jones’ Legacy
Is Jon Jones the greatest mixed martial artist of all time? While it is impossible to accurately compare fighters from different generations in terms of their ability (training regimens and knowledge of the sport increases each generation) it is possible to compare Jon Jones’ record with that of the best the sport has ever had, and currently he’s just short of the elite.
Jones has 8 successful title defences, whereas GSP has 9 and Anderson Silva has 10. Demetrius Johnson is also sitting at 8 title defences. While some people like to claim that Jon Jones is the best ever in terms of ability you can’t yet call him the best ever in terms of his accomplishments. If Jones defeats Cormier and then racks up another 2-3 title defences there will be no debating who the best ever is.
