Floyd Mayweather Uses Reminder of Cartel Threat to Bring Back Memories of His Victory Over Conor McGregor…

It was one of the most lucrative fights of all time, with the second-highest number of Pay-Per-View buys ever sold. When Floyd Mayweather faced off against Conor McGregor in August 2017, it was more than a just a boxing match. It was a spectacle driven by hype and hysteria, the likes of which we have never seen before.

They’re back at it again. No, not in the ring or the octagon. On that most celebrated platform of champions: Twitter. The pair clashed after Mayweather decided to revive one of the most sensational stories surrounding McGregor last year.

For those who missed it, the story broke last November. The Irishman was on a night out in Dublin, when he came into confrontation with another man. Allegedly, despite ‘The Notorious’ punching him, no charges were pressed. Where’s the story you might ask? Well, it turns out that the man he assaulted was a member of the notorious Kinahan cartel.

Hit List

The Kinahans are currently involved in an active and very violent gang war with their rivals, the Hutch family. The death count has been high, and at times their war has broken out into mainstream international media. One infamous example occurred in February 2016. A member of the Kinahan cartel was shot dead in the Regency Hotel in Dublin, as the weigh-ins for the WBO European Lightweight title were taking place.

McGregor found himself involved when stories broke that associates of the Kinahans had put a hit out on the controversial fighter. This has yet to be officially confirmed or denied by ‘The Notorious,’ although his father has denied it.

Watch Out Conor

Since Mayweather’s dominant victory the pair have continued to have spats on Twitter. So it wasn’t a big surprise when he tweeted:

McGregor vs. Mayweather 2?

McGregor is not exactly known for staying silent when provoked. He’s had run-ins with both Khabib Nurmagamedov and Showdown executive Carlos Espinoza on Twitter, in the last couple of weeks.

A number of Irish rugby internationals also came out in support of McGregor. However, the Notorious himself wasn’t finished there.

It Never Ends

The ongoing feud between two of the most iconic fighters in the world may ignite hope for a rematch between the pair. With McGregor’s UFC future up in the air, stranger things could happen. These online exchanges have been used very cleverly by ‘The Notorious’ to keep people talking about him, even though it is over a year since he has been in the octagon.

As for McGregor’s gangland link, UFC President Dana White is certain that regardless of whether or not the rumours are true, the organisation would be able to work around it. You can’t help but feel that they are happy for their most ‘Notorious’ fighter to continue to sell his larger-than-life image.
