The former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey has been out of action just under a year now. Following one of the most brutal knockout losses in UFC history, ‘Rowdy’ dropped off the radar. Her downfall was as swift as it was harrowing.

Matched against former boxing champion Holly Holm at UFC 193, Rousey came in as a massive favorite. The betting odds ended up being worth less than the paper they were printed on. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ provided one of the most memorable moments in all combat sport history.

UFC 193: Rousey v Holm

Head Kick From Hell

It turned out Ronda Rousey wasn’t the amazing striker her coach led everyone to believe. Far from it, she looked a complete amateur against Holm. The devastation of Holm’s huge left head kick wouldn’t even start to set in until well after Rousey had woken up.

After the dust had settled in Melbourne, Australia, Rousey faced an uncertain future in the UFC. After dominating so many contenders during her reign, the confidence and spark had been drained from ‘Rowdy.’

Ridicule

The backlash of Ronda Rousey’s loss was surreal. Hurtful memes and videos poured in by the thousands. Fans seemed to rejoice in her shocking downfall, only sending Rousey further in to her depression.

An emotional version of the former champion appeared on TV for the first time, months later, claiming she’d considered suicide after UFC 193. The fact is that Rousey had taken the loss far harder than any of us had realized.

Comeback?

Obviously the months since her last fight have been filled with speculation. Many of us wondered if she’d ever emerge from that nasty KO against Holm. Rumoured returns at UFC 200 and UFC 205 both turned out to be nothing.

This is where things start to get interesting. MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani is renowned for leaking information long before the UFC is ready to announce it. Here’s what he said about the upcoming UFC 207 in December:

Helwani was famously banned from attending UFC events after he leaked information on Brock Lesnar’s return. The ban was soon lifted by UFC president Dana White, but he’s been making a habit of it again lately.

Could Velasquez vs. Werdum 2 play co-main event to the comeback of Ronda Rousey? One hungry contender in the form of Cris Cyborg might be interested!
