Jason Jackson has snatched the welterweight title from Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 301. The Jamaican made a monumental success after knocking down the former champion, giving his first loss as a professional.
The new champion was already showing great performance at the start of the bout by preventing Amosov’s attempt for a takedown. With vigorous uppercuts and knees, “The Ass-Kicking Machine” stopped Amosov’s plan and kept his composure until Round 2, where he delivered a series of punches that caused the former champ to drop.
Amosov tried to quickly get back to his feet, but Jackson welcomed it with more punches that made the opponent drop again. While still on the ground, Amosov couldn’t counter the attacks and was left helpless while receiving all the punches to his head.
In his final attempt to stand, Amosov received a final punch. It wasn’t as perfect as the earlier ones Jackson sent, but it made the opponent completely drop when it hit him as he was trying to duck. This made Amosov fall and caused Jackson to fall on his top. By then, the referee intervened, and the bout ended at the 2:08 mark of Round 2.
It is an interesting victory for Jackson. Despite having six straight wins prior to this bout, he was considered the underdog in the fight. Yet, the latest success not only brought him a seven-fight winning streak but also the welterweight title. On a more impressive point, Jackson came from a July 2022 fight.
As for Amosov, the defeat not only cost him his belt but also his clean professional record. This is the first loss of the Ukrainian that snapped his eight-fight winning streak.
