UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and former women’s bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey are very much alike. They experienced massive amounts of hype coming in to their most recent fights, and both fell rather spectacularly in full view of millions of fans.
Rousey took on the massive underdog Holly Holm at UFC 193, in a fight that was expected to be a squash match for ‘Rowdy.’ Instead it was quite the opposite, as Holm pounded her way to a second round head kick knockout.
Rousey was dethroned, and Holm’s reign would be short as she got choked out by Miesha Tate just three months later. McGregor would retain his featherweight title after his loss, but it was equally as unexpected for the Irishman.
Taking on Rafael dos Anjos’ replacement Nate Diaz on 11 days notice at UFC 196, McGregor was heavily favored to take out the Stockton bad boy on March 5. Instead it was Diaz who would dispatch the streak-ending beatdown, choking ‘The Notorious’ in to submission within two rounds.
