Steven Seagal
Brazilian stars Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida were happy to welcome one of their movie idol’s Steven Seagal into the gym and humbly accepted fighting tips from the Akido black belt, despite already having reached the peak of the sport as UFC champions.
Seagal went on to attend their fights in the UFC and then things gotawkward as he began to start taking a little too much credit for some of their biggest victories.
“I am teaching Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida,” Seagal said on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. “I show them, you know, a lot. Not everything I know, but I show them punches and what we call Ashi Sabaki, which means how you move with your feet, how you enter, hand angle, joints, but mostly I’m teaching them kicks and punches.
“There is a signature kick that I’ve taught them that they’ve knocked champions out with and won world championships with.”
The signature move he claims he taught them is in fact just a front kick – a technique any martial artist would be familiar with.
Seagal became a laughing stock among fans of the sport for repeatedly making claims like this, while his so-called students Silva and Machida soon distanced themselves from him.
