UFC star Nate Diaz has been linked to the Floyd Mayweather camp this month…

Nate Diaz became the first man to defeat Conor McGregor in the UFC in 2016. Since then it’s been a hectic ride for Diaz, with a rematch coming at UFC 202. After their first bout at UFC 196, Diaz’s career enjoyed a monumental up swing.

Following years of toiling on low pay, as have hundreds of other fighters, Diaz finally started making bank. Unfortunately, even after such a massive ‘W,’ Diaz was not safe from the UFC themselves.

UFC president Dana White was quick to make a second fight, and when McGregor won, White even admitted McGregor was ‘too special’ for a trilogy.

Hiatus & Probable Comeback…

Since UFC 202 last August, Diaz has remained inactive. Staying active on social media though, Diaz has made a point of keeping his sights on McGregor. Just last week Diaz was even linked to walking Floyd Mayweather out to his ‘boxing match’ against Conor McGregor.

Speaking with The Roman Show, Diaz responded to the rumours:

“I don’t know man, that’s what I am hearing too,” he said.

On a UFC return:

“Time will tell,” he said. “We will see what happens in the coming months. I am sure I’ll be there sooner than later, but I am just taking the summer off and checking out on some thing,” he said.

“I think McGregor’s got a good chance to make something happen in the first two or three rounds,” Nate told CSN Fights, “I’m just saying he’s got a puncher’s chance — if anything. But as far as skill and technique, he’s got an amateur style and anybody can be good for nine, six, seven minutes. Anybody. They all have a puncher’s chance.

“This guy [Mayweather] is ready to go round after round and he’s a hard person to get a hold of. I think it’d be a rough one [for McGregor], but who knows?”

Older brother Nick Diaz, also known for long periods of inactivity lately, also weighed in on the McGregor vs. Maywether circus this week. Nick was surprisingly complementary about the Irishman’s boxing:

As far as MMA, I want to say there’s maybe five guys that do jiu-jitsu that have an actual level of understanding when it comes to boxing,” Diaz told MMA News “He (McGregor) obviously does. I feel like, if he can hit my brother he can definitely put up somewhat of a fight with Floyd, if not actually bring him an actual challenge.”

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen, I could say one thing, I could be wrong. Also, the ups and downs of life, you never know what’s going on. Either one of these guys could have a bad – like the last time my brother fought he had broken ribs, torn rib tissue. Neither one of those fights worked out for him. He had 13 days the first time and the next time he was injured. I was there for it.”
