The MMA gods are a fickle bunch. They clearly haven’t had enough human sacrifices this year, because it looks like the BMF title is off. Nate Diaz has stunned the combat sports world by revealing he may have tested positive for a banned substance. As a result, he says he won’t be able to fight in ten days in Madison Square Garden.
Diaz is supposed to fight Jorge Masvidal for the one-off honorary title. These two men have captured the imaginations of fans, making this one of the most anticipated fights of the year. However, it’s now in danger of falling apart at short notice. Let’s make it clear though, that the UFC has yet to make a statement and as of now the fight is still booked.
But Diaz clearly feels threatened. He says that he wanted to defend his legacy before USADA told the world that he tested positive. A test failure automatically changes how fans think about you. As he said before: ‘Everybody is on steroids.’

Positive?
In a profanity-laden post, Diaz explained the situation to his fans. He said that USADA had informed his latest test sample may be tainted. However, they did not want him to make this public, pending an investigation. Diaz says that it’s impossible because he only takes wholefood and natural food supplements. As a dedicated vegan, that’s possibly true. He wrote:
“ Im not gonna make it out to NYC for fight week next week because they say I tested with elevated levels that they say may be from some tainted supplements. I call false on that cause I only take Whole Food or natural food supplements. So until UFC, Usada or whoever f***ing with me fixes it, I won’t be competing. I’m not going to play their game and try and hide it or keep quiet, as they suggested.
Let’s Fight
Obviously, Jorge Masvidal has been playing close attention to this situation. It’s one of the biggest main events of the year, so of course, he will want it to go ahead. ‘Gamebred’ insists that he knows Diaz is a clean fighter and that he still wants to compete. Let’s hope it does because it would be a massive letdown if this one falls apart.
You not the baddest mofo in the game (i am) but you are one of the cleanest mofo’s @NateDiaz209.I’ll see you nov 2. I know your name is clean. I don’t need @usantidoping to tell me shit!
He also had a message for welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who wanted to leap in on ten days notice. To sum up, Masvidal told him where to go. He tweeted:
“Stfu you wouldn’t fight me with 7 weeks notice. You not fighting me on 10 days notice cloutchaser.com#supernecessary.”
Tweet and Delete
When news this big is released, it attracts the attention of everybody in the MMA world. So of course, Conor McGregor had to get involved. He’s currently in Moscow where he was promoting his whiskey. Yesterday he announced that he will fight on January 18th in Las Vegas. Donald Cerrone is the frontrunner to be his opponent. However, could you imagine if he were to leap into this event on ten days notice? That would be insane. He tweeted and deleted:
“There’s only one Bad Mother F**ker in this game and he is the weight jumping, sport crossing, country invading, whiskey-drinking Irish animal typing this tweet right now.
Right here from his presidential suite in the Ritz Carlton in downtown Moscow.
See you all soon.”
