1. Art Jimmerson

Art Jimmerson had been a pro boxer for 8 years when he accepted an invitation to take part in the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championships.  Jimmerson must have thought he had a great strategy heading into the tournament.  By wearing a boxing glove on one hand, Jimmerson would be able to jab at his opponent and maintain the distance he wants without damaging his hand.

Of course by wearing a boxing glove it prevented him from doing anything when his 1st round opponent, Royce Gracie, took him to the ground and submitted him in what was each fighter’s pro MMA debut.

Gracie went on to win 3 of the next 4 UFC tournaments, while Art Jimmerson went back to boxing and never competed in MMA again.
