It’s The Notorious’s Birthday and He’s Just Been Given the Most Bizarre Present of All Time…

Conor McGregor’s rise to fame and massive popularity came about because he inspired the average working class dude to reach beyond himself and step past conventional limits. Now McGregor is 30 years old, a former 2-weight world champion and offended the world multiple times over. He’s also got $100 million in the bank and a young son. It’s a good time to be alive.

He’s also being linked heavily to a comeback later this year. If you’re a Conor fan, you’re going to be very excited by this. One Lithuanian supporter of the ‘Notorious’ has taken his devotion to the next level. He’s sculpted a $66,000 statue of the Irishman in various contorted poses and given it to him for his birthday.

Artist Edgar Askelovic, AKA Aspencrow is the man who created this insane piece of art. Take a look at it below.

Insane

It’s actually ludicrously detailed. As you can see it shows McGregor reclining into the rock he is carved out of. Way to go Aspencrow… we’re trying to put a dent in his ego. The sculpture is made from marble and silicone and will be on display in London’s JD Malat Gallery from July 14 to September 30. So if you’re in the UK capital pop down and take a look.

“He is a phenomenon of our time – not just a smart athlete, but also a visionary,” Aspencrow said. “To create the piece, I looked back to antiquity, when athletes were immortalized in sculptures as gods. And I combined some details from a Michelangelo statue with modern day graffiti to capture the present day’s warrior sensibilities.”

After the exhibition, the artist is set to present the statue – worth £50,000 or $66,000 – to McGregor for his birthday. Nice. It’s better than Christiano Ronaldo’s anyway…

Return

Despite strong hints from McGregor’s camp that he is set to return later this year, it all pretty much depends on the outcome of his legal case, later this year. He’s been going back and forth with Khabib Nurmagamedov – as you’d expect after throwing a dolly through a window at him – but can’t do anything until he’s been sentenced at the end of this month. Dana White told the UFC 226 post-fight press conference:

“You know what? I’m not even thinking about Conor until… I’m serious. I know they [McGregor’s camp] say there are talks but we’re not talking about a fight right now. Conor has to get through July; he has to get through July.

“Whatever is going to happen to him in July, we’ll figure that out. I don’t know what’s going to happen – is he going to get fined, be on probation, is he going to get this, that – when that is over with, then we will start talking about him fighting.”

Training

The Notorious is back in training though, as those who keep an eye on his social media will tell you. He’s been practicing his wrestling quite intensely which shows you that Nurmagamedov is on his mind.
