Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Went in Hard on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez While Simultaneously Crushing Conor McGregor in One Post…
Say what you like about Floyd Mayweather – and a lot of people don’t like him – there’s still no doubt that he’s the greatest boxer of the 21st century, and probably the best defensive stylist of all time. He’s 50-0 for a reason and has hardly been threatened at all throughout his career.
He’s fought the best of the best including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquaio and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. He’s expected to fight Pacquaio in what would basically be an easy money rematch early next year. Even though he’s officially retired after beating Conor McGregor in what was basically an exhibition match, he’s still got the hunger for dollars.
Now, Mayweather has reacted to the news that Alvarez has been given a new mega contract by DAZN. ‘Money’ reminded the Mexican that there are levels to all aspects of this game, including money.
Astounding
It’s been an incredible few weeks for Canelo. He became the first fighter to inflict a (contentious) loss on Gennady Golovkin and now has agreed a massive $365 million contract with streaming service. DAZN, over five years and 11 fights. It’s been described as one of the most lucrative deals of all time and Canelo said:
“Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances. At the same time, I am humbled to be selected to lead this new vision for the sport of boxing, which will without a doubt be for the benefit of the fans.”
Money Time
Mayweather – being a massive online troll – couldn’t resist the chance to take a shot at the Mexican who infamously tested positive for banned substances, which he would blame on contaminated meat. He posted a picture of their 2013 meeting in Las Vegas, where he would win by majority decision. ‘Money’ wrote:
“It didn’t matter if Canelo ate his PED steak or not this night, this was by far the easiest fight of my career. Connor McQuitter was a way better fighter than Canelo’s cheating ass and I beat the breaks off him too. It takes me 36 mins or less to make $300 million plus. It literally takes me 1 night and 1 fight to make what you might make in 5 years and 11 fights! So really, who’s winning? You do the math!”
Comeback
The problem Mayweather has is that he’s 41 years old now. There’s literally no fight he can take that will get people excited. A rematch with Pacquaio now won’t enhance his legacy. Sure it would stretch his record to 51-0, but you’d have to put an asterisk beside his and Conor McGregor’s names.
Meanwhile, he’s being persistently linked to a fight against Khabib Nurmagamedov. The Russian might be a rising combat sports star, but he doesn’t have the personality to sell a fight as Conor McGregor does. The mainstream interest in that hypothetical boxing match would be very limited. Just forget about it please guys.
