Ronda Rousey Signals That She is Fully Committed to the WWE on The Ellen Show…
Ronda Rousey isn’t coming back to the UFC. The former bantamweight champion became a superstar, as she took command of her division in devastating fashion. ‘Rowdy’ became a role model for women around the world.
It all went wrong though when she lost her title to Holly Holm at UFC 193. That head kick in Australia sent shockwaves around the world. Then, after a hiatus, she took on the new bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, which ended in a brutal first-round knockout.
The American looks to have found her home in the WWE. She’s recently signed on and looks like she’s finally at peace, after the struggles of her last two years in the UFC. She made a guest appearance on The Ellen Show and spoke about her future with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
Not Coming Back
Rousey made it clear that where she is right now is where she wants to be. She’s all set up to become a WWE superstar, and it is all clicking into place for her. She told Ellen:
“I don’t know if I’ll return to the UFC. I think it’s just as likely as me going back to another Olympics for judo. No one demanded a written resignation from me for judo and I don’t really think the same thing is necessary for fighting. I’m just doing what I enjoy and WWE is what I enjoy right now.”
Those are enlightening words. Ok, she didn’t one hundred percent rule out a return, but that’s like saying you might go back and shop at Walmart after becoming a millionaire. It isn’t going to happen. Her last two defeats were too devasting mentally and physically.
Royal Rumble
Rousey also explained how she managed to confuse everybody about her appearance at the Royal Rumble. She had posted on Instagram saying that she was shooting a film in Bogota, Colombia with Mark Wahlberg. Rousey said:
“Florida is like the capital of wrestling, so how the hell am I going to get there unseen? So I throw on a beanie and some glasses, put a hood on, and they put like all these police around me… and it really looked like I got busted for drugs.”
Well, that explains that. Although many expected her to be there, the manner in which she appeared was still surprising for most people. Rousey is getting the royal treatment from the WWE, and it’s no wonder because she could be the star of this generation.
What’s Next?
Rousey’s debut is expected to be a mixed match-up against Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. A number of potential partners have been linked. At the moment Kurt Angle is the most likely, but Shane McMahon is also a possibility.
The Rock has also been linked to a one-off WWE return. If he partnered Rousey on her debut it would be sensational, but it might overshadow her star potential. Furthermore, his film contracts would probably prevent him from returning because of the risk of injury. We’ll see Rousey again soon.
