Two ageing legends of boxing and MMA…

Recent fascination surrounding MMA vs. boxing has exploded. Thanks to the growing rivalry between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, it’s pretty much all everyone is talking about.

Former featherweight and current lightweight champ ‘The Notorious’ is odds on for a boxing clash with Mayweather this Summer. According to bookmakers, McGregor is a heavy underdog already.

Dana Unhappy, Roy Jones Jr. Wants In

Although UFC president Dana White has sent multiple warnings, McGregor is defiant. With all signs pointing to an imminent boxing debut in the next quarter, another boxing star wants in on the fun.

Enter Roy Jones Jr., who this past week defeated bareknuckle legend Bobby Gunn by TKO. RJJ is a former six-time four-weight world champion, and the current WBF cruiserweight boss at age 48.

He took to social media to challenge fellow fighting legend Anderson Silva:

Interesting…

‘The Spider’ is widely regarded as top 3 pound-for-pound of all-time, many feel he is number one. During Jones Jr.’s prime he was also the most feared fighter in his division. Recently returning at UFC 208, Silva squeaked by Derek Brunson for a decision win.

Prior to the Brunson fight, Silva hadn’t won in nearly five years. Astounding considering he still holds the record for longest winning streak and title reign in UFC history.

Huge

There’s clearly no doubt in anyone’s mind that this kind of event would be ridiculously huge. Having two of boxing’s and two of MMA’s biggest stars squaring off would shatter every record in the book.

Only problem is, this would mean Silva also breaking contract with the UFC, or both boxers fighting under the UFC banner. Given White’s recent statements, this kind of show could be an absolute minefield of legal hurdles and debate.

But, how crazy would it be to see these four at the top of any kind of combat sports card?
