While they say anything can happen in a fight, some things are more likely than others…

No matter what happens on August 26th it will have a significant impact on the future of combat sports. It doesn’t matter whether Floyd wins or Conor shocks the world, this fight, and the insane amount of PPV buys it generates, is a game-changer for the entire industry.

Whether these changes will be for better or worse is yet to be known. Oscar De La Hoya may have some strong opinions, but nobody knows exactly how the industry will be impacted moving forward. Some say the increased exposure will be a good thing, others note the drop in PPV revenue after Mayweather vs. Pacquiao as evidence to the contrary. We will just have to wait and see.

While these predictions may seem ridiculous, everyone of them is entirely possible. Many of them should even be considered a likely occurrence.

Here are 7 ridiculous predictions for Mayweather versus McGregor.

7. Highest Grossing (and most purchased) PPV Ever

Let’s get this one out of the way first. Mayweather vs. McGregor will be the most purchased and highest grossing PPV of all-time.

In order to achieve this, the bout will have to surpass Mayweather vs. Pacquiao’s numbers. That fight was purchased by 4.4 million people, eclipsing the previous mark of 2.4 million for Mayweather vs. De La Hoya. In order to become the highest grossing event of all time, it will have to surpass the $400 million mark.

There are experts out there who are predicting as high as 5-7 million buys for this PPV. An article in Business Insider predicted the fight surpasses 5 million buys, and Dana White himself has said he expects the bout to cross that threshold. With a PPV price of $100, that would mean $500 million in revenue, surpassing the previous record by 25%.
