5. Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz

Dana White doesn’t just complain about MMA referees, he’ll get on boxing refs as well. Which is exactly what he did following the WBC welterweight title fight between Floyd and Victor Ortiz.

The title fight was filled with controversy. Mayweather took the first 3 rounds but in the 4th Ortiz flagrantly headbutted Floyd, then after referee Joe Cortez took a point away he turned his back to the two fighters to restart the timekeeper. With the refs back turned Floyd landed a combination on Ortiz, who still had his hands down waiting for the restart, and that ended the fight. Mayweather was the winner, and that was that.

“The referee destroyed that fight,” White stated afterwards.
“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen. There are only two big boxing fights a year. This was a multimillion-dollar fight that this one guy destroyed.”

“The solution is athletic commissions have to start working harder,” White continued. “The last thing I want to happen on Fox, on my first big fight when everyone tunes in, is a referee blow this whole thing. I’ve been saying it for 10 years.”
