3. UFC Fight Night 62: Leandro Silva vs. Drew Dober
Unfortunately when a referee makes a call to stop a fight, even one as terrible as this, the fight is over. When referee Eduardo Hardy called an end to this fight, he must have believed that Dober tapped. Silva had a guillotine locked in but Dober was in a rather safe position and not in any trouble, yet shockingly the ref stepped in to stop the fight.
The fight would eventually be overturned to a no-decision, and needless to say White was not happy afterwards.
“Supposedly, the referee is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu who reffed that fight. That was so far from a tap…. It’s one of the biggest referee screw-ups of all time.”
Before the result of the fight was overturned, White had this to say,
“It should absolutely, positively be a no-contest. Probably going to be tough to do because these athletic commissions, they protect their own. They’ll back up their refs. But this one’s so blatant, so bad, I just don’t see how you don’t overturn this and make this a no-contest.”
