Song Yadong wants to face Petr Yan in his next bout, but the Russian seemingly lacks interest in doing it by implying it is boring. Yan, nonetheless, fired back to the fellow bantamweight fighter, saying his last bout “was boring, too – like sh*t.”
Yadong’s already voiced his plan to make the callout prior to his fight against Chris Gutierrez, whom he defeated via a unanimous decision in the UFC Fight Night 233 main event. After this success, Yadong announced his intent, only to receive a yawning emoji from Yan. Needless to say, the No. 7-ranked fighter doesn’t like any part of it.
Yadong then stressed that he already faced fighters at a lower rank than him, suggesting Yan should do the same, especially now that he is on a current three-fight losing skid. “No Mercy” had his last bout versus Merab Dvalishvili, who defeated him via a unanimous decision in March.
“I already fought two guys lower than me, so I want to fight Petr Yan,” Song said during the post-fight conference of UFC Fight Night 233. “He post the emoji. It means the fight was boring, but his last fight was boring, too – like sh*t.”
The 26-year-old has a strong preference to face top-five fighters in his next bout, stressing that he does not want to fight “outside of top 10.” Nonetheless, Yadong’s main focus now is Yan, whom he challenged for a UFC 299 match in March.
“Let’s fight at UFC 299,” Yadong challenged Yan. “I heard that he wants to fight in March. We can fight in March. We both don’t go back. Let’s go face-to-face. Let’s see who’s boxing is good. Let’s see who is the best boxer in this division.”
