Tony Ferguson gave a rather blunt analysis of John Kavanagh recently…
Tony Ferguson doesn’t pull any punches. If you ask him what he thinks of someone you are going to hear exactly that. He had a rather interesting way of communicating his thoughts on Conor McGregor’s head coach recently, and the internet is having a field day with it.
Ferguson has a lot to be upset about these days. Fights with Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov seem completely out of reach, despite him deserving both. At least, Ferguson is finally being given a chance to fight for a title on October 7th, 2017. Of course, Ferguson knows just because the bout is scheduled doesn’t mean it will actually take place.
Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee
By the time Tony Ferguson steps in the cage with Kevin Lee at UFC 216 it will have been 11 months since his previous fight.
Ferguson had been scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov on March 4th this year. On March 3rd the bout was called off though. Khabib’s camp claimed he became sick while cutting weight and was not in a position to compete. The bout would have been the most financially lucrative of Ferguson’s 6-year UFC career.
Khabib got some mention from Ferguson during El Cucuy’s recent entertaining social media scrum.

Ferguson had a rather interesting response to a Khabib fan from Russia. After being baited, Ferguson stated he defeated Khabib at UFC 208.

Chael Sonnen has echoed similar sentiment regarding fighters who pull-out last minute being declared the loser. Perhaps if a big “L” was added to a fighters Win/Loss record for pulling out of a fight last minute it would happen less often.
Who is the Lightweight Champion?
While Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson fight for the interim championship in just a couple of weeks, there is no guarantee the winner will go on to face Conor McGregor. While a title unification bout is normally in order in such cases, rumors persist that Conor’s next fight is against Nate Diaz.
Should that be the case a real dispute will exist regarding who the actual champion of the division is. If Conor and Nate fight on St. Patrick’s Day next year, as is the rumor, it would be almost a full 6-months after Ferguson or Lee would have won the interim belt. Even if the winner of Conor vs. Nate defends the belt against the winner of Ferguson/Lee just 2 months later, that’s still 8 months the division will have two champions. That doesn’t make any sense from a pure sporting perspective.
Some feel if Conor is not going to face the top contender in the lightweight division then he needs to vacate the title. Tony Ferguson is definitely one of those people.
Ferguson’s Interesting Way of Describing John Kavanagh
A fan on Twitter asked Tony what he thought of the rumor that Jon Kavanagh wants Conor vs. Nate III on St. Patrick’s Day next year.
@John_Kavanagh Is A Hairy Vagina https://t.co/boYq7hg0SJ

It seems relevant to note he bothered to capitalize the first letter of each word in that sentence.
Ok, @John_Kavanagh I'm A Much Better Coach Than You- Snap Down City Academy Will Produce Better Fighters Than You https://t.co/GwyFjrdEFB

Now Ferguson is turning things into a gym war. Who says Tony Ferguson isn’t entertaining?
