Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs
Ok, so technically this one didn’t happen backstage, but it’s too good of a story from the night of a fight not to share.
Joe Riggs managed to claim a decision victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 57 in 2006, but both fighters were left pretty banged up by the hard-hitting encounter and went to hospital afterwards.
Diaz happened to spot Riggs while he was there and started mouthing off at him about the result of the fight. Despite Diaz being getting stitched up at the time and his rival still being attached to a drip he went after him and landed a right hook to the chin.
Riggs admits to being dazed and going down to one knee, but in his version of events he then stood back up, got Diaz in the thai clinch and landed knees to his head until they were broken up by security.
On the other hand Diaz said Riggs tried to take him down, but he managed to hop to stay upright until they ended up in a small office near the emergency exits and then landed punches until security arrived.
Either way, afterwards they presumably went back and received even more medical attention than they had originally come in for!
