Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva was released from the UFC in February of 2014 after he was arrested for the aggravated battery of his estranged wife Thaysa Silva and also threatening to kill her boyfriend Pablo Popovitch while aiming a gun at them.

This appeared to be the final straw for Silva, who had been suspended for a year in 2011 after falsifying a urine sample and then the following year tested positive for marijuana metabolites, leading to another six month suspension.

However, in September of 2014 all the charges hanging over Silva’s head were dropped after his ex-wife failed to co-operate with the authorities, and so the UFC controversially opted to re-sign him.

The move soon backfired though after Thaysa Silva produced video and audio evidence of the fighter allegedly high on cocaine and behaving erratically, while apparently concealing a gun.

She also explained that she hadn’t been able to fully co-operate with the authorities because she had now moved to Abu Dhabi to live with her boyfriend.

The UFC reacted swiftly to the developments and just two weeks after his re-signing he was cut from the promotion once and for all.
