Abu Azaitar
Abu Azaitar made his mark with a 13-1 record fighting for the likes of WSOF and KSW, but his murky criminal past and underworld links led to rumblings of discontent when he signed for the UFC in 2018.
In his youth, the Morrocan born Azaitar attended the controversial King Fahd Academy in Bonn, Germany, which was long rumored to have “attracted Islamists to Germany,” and was investigated for alleged ties to Al Qaeda and other fundamentalist groups.
Azaitar and his brother Omar built a reputation as violent thugs, earning the nickname, the ‘Brutal Twins’, and back in 2003, Azaitar was arrested for attacking a businessman, dousing him in gasoline and stealing his Ferrari, leading to him spending over two years in prison, while his brother Omar was given 20 months for gang theft.
Azaitar was released in 2006, and later that year he and his brother were accused of being involved in a brawl at a gym, during which they violently beat a man.
As if that wasn’t enough, Azaitar was also accused of assaulting his girlfriend, punching her so hard she burst an ear drum.
In more recent times, Azaitar has been linked to notorious gangs in Germany, such as the Miri and Abou Chaker clans, but nonetheless the fighter remains on the UFC roster and earned a victory in his promotional debut back in July of last year.
