5. Urijah Faber Eye Pokes Jimmie Rivera
Perhaps Uriah Faber was trying to cash in on the success of Nate Diaz, by introducing the “Stockton Slap” to his arsenal of strikes. Or perhaps he was just negligent and poked an up and coming bantamweight in the eye.
Jimmie Rivera mentioned how much he looked up to Urijah Faber, and how he was one of the guys he cheered for when he was a kid. Perhaps Faber didn’t like being made to feel old, because in the 3rd round the “California Nearly Middle Aged Guy” kicked Rivera low and then poked him in the eye.
The damage to Rivera’s eye may have permanent impact on his vision moving forward, at least that is what Rivera said to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour recently.
Rivera won a decision, despite spending most of the 3rd round being unable to see out of one of his eyes.
