1. Travis Browne Granted Time Out for Hurt Finger

At UFC 193 things would have gone a lot different if after Holly kicked Ronda in the face, Ronda turned to the referee and asked for time because her jaw was broken. Well if MMA referee/tight shirt demonstrator Gary Copeland had been assigned to that bout, she may have been granted that timeout.

Werdum, whose entire evening was a little strange, threw a punch that was partially blocked by Brown and landed on his finger. The strike injured his finger and will actually require surgery, but that’s not what’s at issue here. After the punch landed on his finger, Browne turned to the referee, showed him his finger and Copeland called for time.

I am assuming here, and nobody has said this, that Copeland must have thought there was something wrong with Browne’s glove, which would be a reason he could call for time.

When Copeland called for time he didn’t get in-between the two fighters as he is supposed to do, so Werdum threw a punch at Browne. Then the doctors are called in, pop the finger back into place and announce that he can continue.

How the fight wasn’t stopped during this process is a mystery to everyone, including UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, who explained to the commentators that “there are no timeouts in MMA”.
