The Last Samurai (Kendo Training)
Cpt. Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) is caught by a rag-tag group of Samurai in feudal wartorn Japan on the brink of a new government reform. To make a long story short, the government wants to eradicate all Samurai and outlaw the use of the Katana (samurai swords) in favor of guns.
As Algren recovers from being captured, he starts assimilating into the Samurai society and begins to learn their ways. Eventually they all become friends and Algren is taught the ways of the Samurai — including sword play.
In this scene, one veteran Samurai is training Algren using wooden swords. Samurai guy is pissed there’s a white dude in their camp though so he goes all out and tries to put the beatdown on the American.
The sweet spot is when Algren finally one ups the guy when he fights back. Classic scene from an awesome movie.
