Something has gone wrong with Terry Etim…

A veteran of 11-fights in the UFC, Terry Etim began his MMA career in May of 2005. It couldn’t have started any better than it did. Etim won 9 straight fights in his native England before getting the call to fight for the UFC in 2007.

Not only did he win his first 9 fights, he finished every one of his opponents. In his first UFC bout he submitted Matt Grice via guillotine, bringing his win streak to 10. From there he would run into stiffer competition however. He would go 6W-5L in the UFC, but his career is perhaps best known for a viscous knockout he was on the wrong side of.

Edson Barboza Knocks Out Terry Etim

Etim’s UFC 142 bout with Edson Barboza was an important fight for each guy. Barboza was undefeated, having won his first 3 UFC bouts. Etim had won 4 of his last 5 bouts, his lone loss in that period coming to future lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.

2 minutes into the 3rd round Barboza timed a wheel kick perfectly and put Etim to sleep completely. The knockout has been called one of the most spectacular in UFC history.

Etim would take more than a year off from fighting afterwards. When he returned he dropped a decision to Renee Forte and was released. He signed with Bellator, but has only fought once, defeating Patrick Cenoble in November of 2013. An ACL injury has kept him out of action since.

Throwing Himself Into Traffic

Recent reports are stating Etim may have suffered something of a breakdown recently, one that resulted in the 31-year old running in and out of traffic. The incident occurred yesterday in Liverpool.

According to witnesses, Etim had been riding in the car with friends when he got out and started throwing himself onto the windshields of vehicles, including several busses.

Witness, Andrea McCullough, described the scene as follows:

“It was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. His friends were running after him and trying to restrain him on the floor but he managed to break free and was running in and around all the cars. He wasn’t trying to harm anybody but himself. He was covered from head to toe in blood.”

A nearby barber, Alan Miles, ran out to help after hearing screaming:

“I went out and helped to restrain the man in a nearby car park, but he wrestled his way out from the people that were holding him down. He had blood all over him and I got a lot of it on my hands as I tried to hold him down. His friends were saying he was a professional cage fighter.”

All that is currently known is that Etim is at hospital and his condition is listed as serious.
