Sage Northcutt was looking like the next up and coming title challenger in the UFC lightweight division, and he was only two fights in to his Zuffa contract. He’d looked great against a couple of relatively unknown fighters, and was expected to steam roll his UFC on FOX 18 opponent.

Often described as Dana White’s baby, and the next Conor McGregor, Northcutt was receiving other worldly amounts of hype and coverage. Especially considering he hadn’t really beaten any known fighters yet.

The heavily muscled 19 year old was then faced with an opponent change for tonight’s UFC on FOX card from Newark, New Jersey. His originally scheduled lightweight bout then turned to a welterweight bout with an opponent change.

This didn’t alter many predictions, and few thought Bryan ‘Bam Bam’ Barbarena would deliver against the much more athletic and explosive ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt. Boy, were we wrong.

This is one of the very few pictures of ‘Bam Bam’ that’s available for sharing, as he was such an unknown force until this evening. His actuions at UFC on FOX 18 will certainly change that perception though, and it wasn’t just the fight.
