OK, it was almost understandable when it was Jon Jones, but the Ronda Rousey memes went too far, and now Sage Northcutt too? He wasn’t even champion and only had 3 UFC fights!

It seems like most of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s ‘Hype Trains’ have come to a crashing halt in the last few months. It all started at UFC 193 with Ronda Rousey, where the outspoken and massively promoted women’s bantamweight queen was dethroned by Holly Holm.

The moment was instantly captured and transformed in to a barrage of both funny and hurtful memes. It seemed the fans had heard enough of the promotion’s seemingly endless hype train, but it wasn’t over by a long shot.

Up next was highly backed by the UFC Paige VanZant. The feisty women’s strawweight had all the makings of a top quality hype train, but got exposed in her lack of actual skills against Rose ‘Thug’ Namajunas.

Of course now Conor McGregor has taken Rousey’s spot as the most hyped UFC fighter, especially after his huge win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194. The ex-featherweight champion’s one punch knockout loss also got the MMA meme treatment.

Then we have the case of Sage Northcutt.

UFC lightweight/welterweight Sage Northcutt was being hailed as the next big thing in mixed martial arts, and was already making more money after two fights than many unhappy veterans of the octagon.

Where he differs from VanZant, but is similar to Rousey, is that Sage is actually a skilled martial artist who’s been competing all his life. Unfortunately for ‘Super’ Sage, he got exposed on the ground at UFC on FOX 18, and it’s once again opened the floodgates to a ton of Memes.
